A 5K is my minimum for a “long” run, which happens on the weekends. Lower mileage is for days when I either just want to stretch my legs after sitting all day at my computer or to do a speed training run and don’t plan on conserving energy for distance. In an average week, I probably run between two to four miles every other day or so. But it’s one of the most accessible ways to get outside of my apartment and just move my body right now, so I typically lean toward the love side. Then there’s the other part of me who dreads the thought of running barely two miles when I could be rewatching the same Will & Grace episode for the fourth time while waiting for my takeout delivery. I’m that weirdo on the street doing an awkward dance that most people would only feel comfortable doing in the shower because my average mile pace was faster than my last run. On one hand, I love the ability to push my body to reach new personal records (PR).

I should tell you: I have a love-hate relationship with running. It also feels lightweight, and the shape of the shoe innately propels you forward without exerting a ton of energy to drive your body. Saucony’s PWRRUN cushioning gives the shoes a pillowy feel, minus the feeling like you’re sinking into a cloud of mush.

The Saucony Endorphin Shift is really designed to keep your body comfortable from the start to the finish of a run. I’ve been working at SELF magazine for five years now-I’ve tested many, many shoes during my tenure-and I don’t think I have ever been as giddy to write about a product as I am right now. I won’t bury my feelings (because my therapist told me to stop): The Saucony Endorphin Shift running shoes are by far the best shoes I tested this year for the 2020 SELF Certified Sneaker Awards.
